Aid by Trade Foundation Presents New Standard for Regenerative Cotton Produced by Small-Scale Farmers

Through its Regenerative Cotton Standard (RCS), the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) is setting a new bar for sustainable cotton standards. RCS is the first regenerative cotton standard that explicitly prioritises the interests and knowledge of small-scale farmers involved in the production process. With small-scale farmers and textile companies facing growing challenges, the new standard will play a key role in ensuring the resilience and future viability of the sector.

In a trailblazing project, CmiA unlocks the potential of satellite-supported remote sensing for sustainable cotton production. This process, which collects information on soil and vegetation, has grown in importance for agriculture throughout the world in recent years. It makes it possible to increase the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of agricultural operations. CmiA is working with Geocledian GmbH and the Tanzanian company Alliance Ginneries Ltd. to extend these advantages to CmiA partner companies as well.

CmiA Cotton: Complying With the Supply Chain Act

In the textile industry, demand is growing for cotton whose provenance is fully traceable from the beginning to the end of the value chain. CmiA products produced under the Hard Identity Preserved system offer transparency and traceability back to their original regions of cultivation. In Germany, traceability is also becoming increasingly important for brands and retailers to comply with the law for due diligence in supply chains.

The Innovations Club platform brings together regional and international experts, researchers, agronomists, and extension specialists committed to finding the most effective, practical, and implementable practices to urgently regenerate African small holder farming eco-systems.
